How to Keep Going When You Want to Give Up
May 25, 2025
"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." – Galatians 6:9
You’ve been faithful. You’ve shown up. You’ve prayed, worked, and waited. But still—breakthrough feels far away. Hope feels thin. The temptation to quit whispers louder than ever.
If you’ve ever thought, “I just can’t keep going,” you’re not alone—and you’re not failing. Even the strongest leaders and most faithful believers hit moments where the weight feels unbearable.
But here’s the truth: you don’t have to keep going in your own strength. You were never meant to.
In Christ, you’ve been given supernatural strength, unwavering hope, and a reason to keep moving forward even when the finish line feels out of sight.
1. Let God Minister to Your Weariness
Burnout is real. So is discouragement. But neither one disqualifies you.
Sometimes, what you need most is to stop striving and allow God to meet you in your exhaustion. You don’t have to pretend to be okay. He’s not asking you to keep pushing through with a smile. He’s asking you to come as you are.
Sit in His presence.
Cry if you need to.
Let Him fill the empty places.
He restores your soul—not your to-do list.
2. Reconnect With Why You Started
Purpose gets blurry when pain takes center stage. Go back to the beginning. Remember the call. Remember the yes you gave God.
-
What stirred your heart at the start of this journey?
-
What vision did God place in your spirit?
-
What doors did He already open that confirmed your steps?
You didn’t come this far just to come this far. There’s a reason you’re here. And He who called you is still with you.
3. Speak Truth Louder Than Fear
The enemy wants you to believe that nothing is changing—that your efforts are in vain. But God’s Word says otherwise.
When you want to give up, let your mouth become your weapon.
Declare:
-
“God is my strength and portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
-
“His power is made perfect in my weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
-
“I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)
-
“I am equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:17)
Let truth echo louder than your thoughts. Truth silences fear.
4. Give Yourself Permission to Rest, Not Quit
There’s a difference between taking a break and giving up. Rest is holy. It’s restorative. It’s necessary.
Jesus Himself pulled away from the crowds to pray, to recharge, to simply be. And if the Son of God needed rest, so do you.
Pause.
Breathe.
Recalibrate.
You don’t lose your anointing by resting—you actually deepen it.
5. Allow Others to Hold You Up
You weren’t created to walk this journey alone. God designed you for community—for people who will lift your arms when you feel too weak to lift them yourself.
Reach out to someone you trust.
Share your struggle.
Let them pray over you, speak life into you, and remind you of what’s true.
Isolation breeds defeat. But together, we overcome.
Your Breakthrough Might Be One Step Away
Sometimes, the greatest victories come right after the hardest battles. What if you’re closer than you think? What if God is already aligning everything behind the scenes? What if your breakthrough isn’t on the other side of more effort, but on the other side of continued faith?
Keep showing up—not because it’s easy, but because you know who walks with you.
Keep going—not in your strength, but in His.
You’re not weak for feeling weary. You’re powerful because you haven’t given up. And the God who began this work in you will be faithful to complete it.
